Weasels Ripped My Flesh

After the Mothers of Invention broke up, Frank Zappa compiled several albums of unreleased live and studio material. In 1970, he approached artist Neon Park (born Martin Muller) to create the cover for an album called Weasels Ripped My Flesh. Zappa gave Neon Park a copy of the cover of Man’s Life Magazine from September 1956 and asked him to do something radical with it on the theme. Below is the original magazine cover then the subsequent album cover Neon Park came up with. Neon Park also created the surreal covers for every Little Feat album except for their debut.

If you go by the covers to Man’s Life, it seems we men spend most of our days fighting off all sorts of mean critters, defending buxom young women in red blouses that always have the buttons missing. I know I sure do. If it’s not weasels or other men I’m fighting, it’s bats, snakes, more snakes, turtles and zombies. What a man’s life!
