World Collage Week – Day Seven

Reid Dickie

After the Sunday service at the Squishy Church for Everybody and communal Sacrificing of Common Sense, it’s the Pulp and Pancake Breakfast in the Bally Crawlspaces presented by the International Forestry Industry (their motto is “Do we look oriented?”) who are introducing a new line of edible tree products, basically poorly-disguised sawdust – oak oats, elm nuts, cedar wheat, aspen aspic (yuck, first; and second, who needs or craves or can even be sold fucking aspic in the 21st century? They’ve been smoking their bibles at the Big Tree Club!), pine sugar, willow eggs, teak Tylenol, unknown nanotree additives for cereals, potato chips and anything that fizzes at any time during its processing and/or consumption and yew yogurt. The pancakes are actually irradiated plumped birch bark, plumped ground pulp, and acidophilus infused with the genes of a panther and a ring-tailed chubhyct. What will those wacky biogeneticists think of next?! The syrup is maple, of course. Collage festival week concludes, as usual, with regression: smiting, keening, ulullating, bisoning, quailing, shaling, stoning, and sexual frolic. Hope you can come at least once. These are the last two collages (I could be swayed by public opinion…) of the week.

THEREA’S BLIND TASTE TEST

Her men gathered in the kitchen, each eager to be blindfolded, spun around and fed pot roast with extra pot.

SQUARE ONE

“And this is how you were conceived, son. Do you understand?”

Banks don’t loan you anything

Reid Dickie

Would you like to acquire some dangerous knowledge today? Like to become part of the small but growing number of people who know how banks really work? My friend Chris, who has spent years studying the shadow world of our monetary system, wrote a concise, revealing and thought-provoking piece called Debt Crisis and posted it on his blog today. Please read it! Read it more than once.

DickToolCo Art Page Expanded

The year-by-year history of the art Linda and I created when we first got together now covers seven years. On DTC Art page, you can find our art actions from 1977 until 1983 with plenty of links to the videos we made and other DTC art attractions. Collage, performance, video, audio, fashion, design, public art – DickTool Co used multi-media to probe the world and its all documented. This picture is from June 1985 when Linda and I were married and is a screen shot from a short video of the casual reception. We were happy kids!

Chris Has an Art Exhibition

My friend, painter, writer and musician Chris Scholl has opened his artistic veins and the resulting “manifestations,” as he calls them, will be on display and for sale starting this Friday at Edge Gallery in Winnipeg.

The exhibition is called Love Art & Fear just like Chris` blog. Two exposes highlight the weeklong stay at The Edge: his new abstract expressionist paintings will be on view and for sale as will his e-book poetistics. The digital book, to be officially launched at the opening, combines Scholl’s poetry and photography with striking results. poetistics is a fund-raising project instigated by Chris that fosters numerous children’s drumming programs in Winnipeg.

Says Chris, “I decided to release the book in digital form as a pure fundraising venture for DNA Rhythms, which creates drumming and recreational music making events for kids, seniors, people with special needs and refugees. Proceeds go towards providing drums and program implementation.”

Friday’s opening is a free event, starts at 7 pm and will feature a live lounge drumming session, surprises and the music of DJ Lotek. Edge Gallery is located at 210-611 Main Street in Winnipeg. The gallery is open weekdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. The exhibition runs until Thursday May 26.

Here are three of Chris` recent paintings.

Ball Plays Bach in Forest

The Oxford dictionary describes a xylophone as: “A musical instrument consisting of a graduated series of flat wooden bars, played by striking with a small hammer or by rubbing with rosined gloves.” This musical gravity or gravitational music project, built in China, plays Bach’s Cantata #147 aka Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring deep in the forest. Prepare yourself: close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, find a peaceful spot then click the pic.
