Lyons House Update

DAUPHIN SEPTEMBER PICTURES 055

Reid Dickie

Over the past week my report on the old Lyons Mansion, tumbling down daily along Hwy #5, has garnered thousands of hits and several comments bemoaning the old pile’s condition.

The pictures on the previous post showed the glamorous face of the place. Below are several shots of the Lyons house in less flattering detail. One reader suggested they’d like to buy it and refurbish the old place. Take a long look at the condition of the foundation and brick structure before you follow through. It’s had it! It’s a ruin!

To see the condition of the interior watch my video.

I would really like to know, when it was abandoned and why there’s a 1930’s car

  4. Jacob

I still need to know why they abandoned it and the old car in the back

Reid, one of the staircases in the house has fallen in and the foundation has shifted a little more

  6. to make a long story short, dad bought the Lyon,s farm around 1950,from W Switzer…sold it around 1970 to Shirtcliff…..Shirtcliff passed away couple yrs later…..Mrs Shirtcliff now owns the farm….the car in back belongs to a farmhand that works for the Mrs…………House was rented out for couple yrs, further damaged……House was used for grain storeage…and was further damged by treasure hunters with metal detecters. any thing fixed by Historical Society is owned by them…keep away from them..their in business too……..

Edward Paluch, did you grow up in the Lyons house? I’ve researched so far everyone who’s lived there since it was built! You said to stay away from the historical society, may I ask why? It would be amazing to restore this home but would be very costly without the home being designated a municipal heritage building.
