ART turns 1,000,048 years old and you are invited to the party!

Video Pool Media Arts Centre presents Holus-bolus, everything all at once!

Saturday, January 15th at the Lo Pub & Bistro

You are invited to the 1,000,048th birthday party for ART

Winnipeg’s favorite Media Arts Centre Video Pool invites all creative people under one roof (our metaphorical hat), in one spirit, of one mind, to celebrate all at the same time the biggest day once a year:  ART’s Birthday.

ART’s Birthday is an annual event first proposed in 1963 by French Fluxus artist Robert Filliou. He suggested that 1,000,000 years ago, there was no art. But one day, on the 17th of January to be precise, Art was born when someone threw a sponge in a bucket of water. Now ART’s Birthday has evolved into an international event occurring simultaneously at art centres around the world!

International party partners this year hail from Auckland, Prague, Leeds, Antwerp, Kingston and more!

This year our theme is Holus Bolus, meaning all together, all at once; whole, in one big lump. Wear your own whimsical handmade hat to win big prizes (we have jurors, it’s a serious thing), or make one at the party, at the Table of Imaginative Materials.

Where: Lo Pub & Bistro- 330 Kennedy (Corner of Ellice and Kennedy in the New HI Downtowner Hostel)
When: Saturday January 15
$10.00, or $8.00 with costume
doors open 8pm

”Hovercrafting the Fourth Dimension” recent work from Video Pool begins promptly 8:30pm

Festivities continue till we drop:
*MC for the evening Miss Lizzy La La
*VJing by Jaymez and DJing by Rob Vilar
*Skype kiosk to exchange birthday greetings with revelers at East
Street Arts, Leeds, UK
*Art fun at the Table of Imaginative Material
*Best Made Hat Contest and prizes
so so much more…

Video Pool is in need of:
**volunteers for this exciting night
**hats you don’t need back and materials for millinery fun
if you wish to help please contact: Liz Garlicki at artsbirthday2011@yahoo.ca

Video Pool thanks them for their kind hospitality:

George Carlin’s Next Life

By George Carlin

I want to live my next life backwards.

You start out dead and get that out of the way.

Then you wake up in a nursing home feeling better every day.

Then you get kicked out for being too healthy.

Enjoy your retirement and collect your pension.

Then when you start work, you get a gold watch on your first day .

You work 40 years until you’re too young to work.

You get ready for High School: drink alcohol, party,
and you’re generally promiscuous.

Then you go to primary school, you become a kid,  you play, and you have no responsibilities.

Then you become a baby, and then… You spend your last 9 months floating peacefully in luxury, in spa-like conditions, central heating, room service on tap, and then…You finish off as an orgasm.

I rest my case.
